yay, i am back in Singapore after a gruelling four day stay at kota tinggi. I battled out with the elements where i faced the capricious weather. When i first reached there, it rained very heavily that i shivered miserably. However, i thought i wouldnt have to wear my poncho so I acted gungho and braved the weather. I regretted doing something so stupid like that coz the winds were strong and i was soaked completely. Everyone was shivering uncontrollably. I stayed at a v nice resort but did not get to enjoy it much as i was out in the rain doing really challenging activities. The area was surrounded by the wilderness and mountains. I had lots of games which needed alot of teamwork and it was really fun. Then, there is this bridge which is darn shaky, you know that kinda swing bridges which are made of wooden planks and sway precariously when you walk on it? Well, a few ppl deliberately jumped and ran and made the bridge sway when they knew i was behind them coz they knew i was afraid of it and i was damn scared of heights. Try walking on this terribly long bridge which is high above a river. u wouldnt wana slip and fall man. At night, it is scary to walk in pairs coz itz so dark and u hear lotsa funny sounds so imagination starts running wild and i freaked out. Then, there was the nite hike which we had to walk in the forrest in the dark. it was so dark that it took alota time to adjust. We saw fireflies which were glowing in green color. It was beautiful as there was this tree which had several fireflies hiding in it so i could see the faint glow in the tree. We were made to go on solo walks for confidence building. Thank goodness a gal broke down coz she was scared so i accompanied her. although there was some moonlight, it was freaky to even walk in pairs in that area at nite. Then, someone got bitten by a leech so i immediately stepped on it which did not seem to wrk coz it still moved though it started to bleed. I got pissed so i took out my medicated oil and poured over it so it started to twist its body. Cool man, i killed the damn leech.
Over the few days,i did things like abseiling and rafting. Abseiling was scary. the moment of letting go and going down really required lotsa courage. Climbing up three storeys to abseil down was not easy too coz half the time, i was so afraid of the height. But it was really fun to abseil coz itz like a lizard walking down a vertical wall in matrix style. Rafting was fun as i did not get to capsize, pheww...
The highlight was the trek on the mountain, gunung panti. this mountain was 512m high. To get to the foot of the mountain, we had to climb up slopes, cross a stream and it was tiring to walk for almost 1 over hr just to get to the darn foot. When we reached the foot, i was exhausted as i was carrying 2 litres of water which made my bag about 3 to 5kg heavy. the climb up the mountain was really an uphill task. It took so much energy for me to climb up slippery slopes and holding onto the rocks, roots and branches for support. It was scary considering that we had no rope for support. After about 5 over hours of climbing at about 1pm, we reached the last 75m to the summit. There was one vertical rock face which required us to climb and grab hold of the rocks. It was scary. Although i had a rope, the rock crevices were so narrow that it was so hard to climb. After i completed the rock face, the climb up was even scarier. The slope upwards was almost vertical and we had no ropes to help us so i was basically holding onto the trees for dear life. At about 3pm, I was the 2nd person to reach the summit. It felt so cool at the top and all around me was just clouds. It was beautiful to see the campsite which looked darn small and clouds were just going past us. After resting on the summit, we made our way down. The way down is not easy considering that it was vertical. I slipped a few times but survived. It started to pour and as it was already 4pm, we had only 2 over hours to get outa here before it is dark. Suddenly, the team work and cooperation surfaced. The guys alternated between the girls to support and help one another. At muddy spots, the guys reached out to support us through but still, alot of us slid down the muddy slopes and we didnt care if leeches could get into our skin or not. we were desperate to get outa the place coz we didnt wana get stuck in the forrest at nite. So we sped up and walked as fast as possible though it was dangerous. It was an amazing thing that we got out in just 2 hours flat considering that we took 7 hours to climb up. In all, we trekked for over a thousand metres in 9 hours. Imagine 9 hours of climbing given 5 hours of sleep everday. I am dead tired but very happy as i persevered, never gave up and put my mental strength to the test. im aching and blistered and cut all over, though not bitten my leeches, my clothes are soiled beyong recognition thanks to the mud-skating down the slopes, my track shoes had to be thrown away coz the sole came off. It was really one great experience. The campfire was good though i was saboed to perform some stupid dance. The sparklers were lit in the fire and they shot into the sky like fireworks. It was beautiful and we ended on a really high note. We just loved every minute spent in this wild place. It is so wild and back to nature that the resort room itself doesnt have a darn telephone or tv and no handfone reception at all as only the carpark has reception. Despite these, i enjoyed myself as it was really back to nature. woohoo... i wish i m still there battling the elements.
